ENGLISH TUTORIAL FOR LITEON 74850C

TUTORIAL PARA LT+ EM DRIVE LITEON 74850C [USANDO CK3]

This tutorial is ONLY for the Liteon 74850C. We will show you how to successfully dump the DVD key and update the firmware using Jungle Flasher and a CK3 Pro, CK3 Lite or Blaster CK3 and the CK3 Probe.
Things You Will Need:
  • Latest Jungle Flasher (Download)
  • Latest iXtreme Firmware (As of 22nd May 2010 that is the iXtreme LT v1.1)
  • Compatible Sata Chipset (We Recommend a VIA 6421 - www.via6421.com)
  • Blaster CK3, CK3 Pro or CK3 Lite (Buy)
  • CK3 Probe v1 or v2 (Buy)
  • CK3 USB Drivers (Download) (Only required if using USB on the Blaster CK3 or the CK3 Pro. You do not need these if using the Serial port)
  • You will need to remove the back plate from the Liteon 74850C DVD – See This Page
Make sure you have the latest iXtreme in the Jungle Flasher firmware folder. In this tutorial we are using a VIA 6421 SATA card. You need to disable the VIA driver before using it with Jungle Flasher to prevent your system locking up when reading/writing the Liteon drive. If you are not using a VIA SATA Card you can skip this step.

To disable the VIA driver:
  1. Disable VIA card in Device Manager (Right Click – Disable)
  2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and or rename “viamraid.sys” or “vsmraid.sys” to something like "viamraid.bak"
  3. Re-Enable VIA card in Device Manager (Right Click – Enable)
  4. Re-Boot PC.
If you are asked to install the VIA drivers when you reboot just click cancel. Check that your VIA SATA has a yellow exclamation mark next to the driver.

If you have a CK3 Pro (Rev D) and are using USB make sure you switch to USB/Serial switch to USB (Obviously)

Tip

Some users disconnect the laser ribbon cable to protect the laser from damage when flashing the drive. There is no solid evidence to suggest it causes a problem, however for the 10 seconds of effort, we say you should do it just to be safe

We are now ready to use Jungle Flasher.

Connect your Liteon 74850C DVD Drive to your PC using your Blaster CK3, CK3 Pro or CK3 Lite. Start up Jungle Flasher and go to the DVDkey 32 tab. You might have to change the I/O Port to find your Liteon. In the example blow the I/O port is found at 0xD400. Once you find it, you should see the drive listed under Drive properties (Vendor: PLDS ; Name: DG-16D2s ; F/W Rev: 7485). Make sure you un-check the box that says “Dummy.bin Only”. If you have gotten this far your SATA communication is working perfectly.

If you are using USB to connect to your Blaster Ck3 or CK3 Pro then you need to set your COM port to the correct one on your system. In this case it is COM4. If it’s connected it will display “Xecuter CK3 Pro”. If you are using the serial cable it will probably be COM1.

Once you have identified your Liteon, you need to prepare your Liteon DVD Drive for DVD Key extraction:

  1. Press Eject on the Blaster CK3 / CK3 Pro / CK3 Lite (Switch is Lowered)
  2. Power off the Xbox (Blaster 360) or set the power switch to OFF (CK3 Pro / CK3 Lite)
  3. Push the tray half way in
  4. Press Eject on the Blaster CK3 / CK3 Pro / CK3 Lite (Switch is Raised)
  5. Power on the Xbox (Blaster 360) or set the power switch to ON (CK3 Pro / CK3 Lite)
Now connect the CK3 Probe as per the following diagram. We recommend you put some tape over the voltage regulator so as to make it safer and prevent any unnecessary shortages.

Now click on the DVDKEY32 button. If successful Jungle Flasher will dump the key 6 times. Jungle Flasher will ask you to save your Key.bin, Inquiry.bin, Identify.bin & Serial.bin. Jungle Flasher will then create a dummy.bin which holds all the information in one convenient file. If you get invalid errors then your DVD tray is not pushed half way in or your CK3 probe is not connected correctly. naturally there are many reasons why you would get errors – but those two are the most common. If you followed the steps up to this point correctly you should not have any problems.

Warning

When extracting the key of a Liteon, there is a chance that the key can be corrupted, but it still may look valid. The only way to truly know that it works is to spoof the key to another drive and test it out. If it plays a game, the key is good. We have never personally ever had a bad key, however spoofing to is the only way to be 100% sure so is naturally optional but recommended if you have the option of another drive to test.

Jungle Flasher will ask you to auto-load iXtreme firmware. Click YES.

This is the result of the autospoof. Your DVD key should be the same from the dummy.bin to the ix16-liteon.bin

Now click on the MTK Flash 32 tab and your screen should look like this. Now click on the Lite-On Erase button.

If you are sure that you have dumped your DVD key correctly click on YES.

You now need to be ready to power cycle your Blaster Ck3 (Xbox Power Button) or CK3 Pro / Lite Power Switch. Click YES when you see this prompt.

As soon as you click YES, you will power cycle the drive. That means shut it off for 1 second and turn it back on. If everything is successful you will get good Flash Chip Properties. (The image shows a Winbond/NEX, some will have MXIC)

You are now ready to program your Liteon 74850C DVD Drive. Click on the WRITE button. It will first send an Erase command…..

Then will Write to the drive….

And will then verify that everything programmed correctly…..

Now click on the Outro/ATA Reset Button and your drive will revert back to its non-vendor state.

Now go test that drive – you are all done.
